The project was created in 2005 in response to the growing demand for more smoke free housing. Over 92% of Bay Area residents choose not to allow smoking in their homes, but those who live in apartments and condos have found that the neighbors’ smoke may, in some cases, seep into their living spaces. As much as 65 percent of the air in one apartment may come from other units in some buildings. Exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke has been shown to sicken even healthy people and in some cases cause cancer, heart attacks, and strokes. More about the need for smoke free housing...
